We've just released a few new features for the flash player. For the user, we've added a "high water" mark showing furthest point in the video you've watched. For the web-site owner who embeds a FreeIQ video player on their sites, we're now integrated with Google Analytics to help you understand how users are engaging with your video. Read on...

For the User

Say you start a video one Saturday afternoon and don't get to watch all of it, or you're watching a video and you rewind because you missed a bit of content. The high water mark helps you know where in the video you left off.

The image below shows a player where the user has watched up to about 3 minutes, but rewound to minute 1. The green vertical bar in the timeline helps the viewer return to finish watching the video.

For the Hoster

If you embed a FreeIQ video player and use the free Google Analtyics solution, we'll log entries to your analytics telling you how many folks start watching the video, completed watching the video, click through to your author page, etc.

Here's the full table of events you'll see in your analytics stream:

Log Entry

User Action

/freeiqvideo/playstart/(video name)

start the video

/freeiqvideo/playcomplete/(video name)

             finish the video

/freeiqvideo/authorinfo/(authorHomepage)

view author tab

/freeiqvideo/outgoing/freeiqauthorpage/(authorHomepage)

click through to author homepage

/freeiqvideo/outgoing/freeiqiqpon/(authorHomepage)/(iqponPage)

click through to iqpon

/freeiqvideo/email/(video name)

send a share email

/freeiqvideo/embed/(video name)

get embed codes

You can opt out of this by sending the parameter "useGoogleAnalytics" as false in the embed code, and of course, if you don't use Google Analytics, nothing undesirable will happen. If you use Google Analytics on your site, this will automatically appear in your reports. If you don't, you may want to consider adding Google Analytics to your site, at which point, these will begin appearing in your reports.

So, to our users, happy viewing. To our web-site owners, dedicated stats on viewership of video on your site is yet another reason to use FreeIQ.

Thanks to Andy Beard for the his writeup of Free IQ today. His core complaint about our player, an inability to get to the product page, is now resolved. You can reach the authors homepage from within the Author Info tab, or the homepage of the currently playing video from the FreeIQ logo on the control bar.

What This Means To You

These improvements have advantages for you, no matter how you use FreeIQ:

As a user - you get an improved user experience, with more viewing options and the ability to easily find out more information on the author or the subject.

As an affiliate - you get more sales, because viewers are more likely to click through to content, the author's site, or FreeIQ in general. Plus, with ecommerce enabled in the player itself, you're more likely to get a sale!

As a content provider - users are more likely to watch your video all the way through and to click to your site. Plus, full screen mode makes it so that screen-capture-type videos are more readable, so the learning experience you provide is enhanced.

We think you'll find this new viewer to be a very cool step forward. We'd like to hear your reactions too by adding a comment below! Try it out with one of the links below:

No one has to tell you about the importance of video and how implementing it can increase sales. Many of you already use video on Free IQ to "move the free line" or to sell various products and/or programs. But today we want to point out a new recording software package that may make it easier for you.

A company called Tasteful Graphics, Ltd., debuted a new screen capture video program today called ScreenShow Pro. It’s the type of program used to create many of the instructional videos and info products you see on Free IQ. ScreenShow Pro is the perfect tool for recording any on-screen activity to be played back at a later time as an online video.

ScreenShow Pro is being priced very aggressively at $37 - a great bargain.

Better than that, however, is the deal we’ve got to offer. Michael Ullman, President of Tasteful Graphics, Ltd., and an early beta user of Free IQ, has agreed to make ScreenShow Pro available to Free IQ users and affiliates at an exclusive price of just $29!

To learn more about this product and get your copy at this special price, go to: http://freeiq.com/screenshowpro

Plus, if you'd like to invite others to take advantage of this offer and receive affiliate rewards for those referrals, there is a 50% commission being payed out.

This is a limited-time $29 Free IQ exclusive. So don't wait. In two weeks, the price goes up to $37.

If you've wanted to begin creating info products, training applications, software demonstrations, etc., this is a great opportunity to get started right away.

To learn more about this product and get your copy at this special price, go to: http://freeiq.com/screenshowpro

As we wrap up the week we're excited to introduce a new aspect about Free IQ that will help both Affiliates and Content Providers. <br.

One of the keys to Free IQ is the ability to promote other people's content and make money from the sales generated. With that in mind, today we introduce the initial beta version of the place you will go to select content for promotion: the Marketplace.

Affiliates will now have a place to browse for content to promote and details about the products

Content Providers will now have a place where their content can be found - to then be promoted

To find the Marketplace, go to your Account Manager.

The Marketplace tab is to the far right.

When you select the Marketplace tab you'll see a page that includes the following details:

Thumbnail of the product

Product Title and My Affiliate Link

Price

Affiliate Profit

Number of Purchases per 10,000 views

Total Income per 10,000 views

Recurring Price

Recurring Profit

In the Marketplace you will have everything you need to find content and create your unique affiliate links so that you can begin promoting product and making money from referrals. There will be several enhancements added in the near future, like search filters, but this beta version will get us in the game.

In addition to the Marketplace introduction, there are a couple of other noteworthy site improvements.

Search result display is improved - the number of rows displayed on each page is now customizable per user. There is a dropdown to the right of each of the "next" pagination links which allows for on-the-fly modification. This automatically alters the preferences of the user, so that the same display counts are used the next time as well.

Also, we've amped up the search speed, so there shouldn't be any query that takes more than a second, and most will be nearly instantaneous.

As always, your comments and feedback are welcome. Let us know how this beta version is improving, and especially if you have any comments about the Marketplace. We certainly are building this functionality for you, the Affiliate, so if there are any improvements you can suggest that you think will increase the amount of money you can make.... let us know!

Recently, Brad and Shawn Casey got together to discuss the variety of opportunities Free IQ offers that can help you make more money online. We'll post the video as soon as it's available, but in the meantime we wanted to highlight a sample of the suggestions that may prove to be thought starters to increase your business.

As a reminder, the ideal online partner is someone that has:

Deep subject matter expertise

Content that people pay for - Consultant, Celebrity, etc

Many relationships (a list)

These content providers can be a great resource to partner with in the content creation process or simply as a referral to Free IQ if they already have a product.

Do you realize what that means? Many people will have a market-ready piece of content produced, but there is a large percentage of experts in the world that have no physical product. What if you guaranteed one of them that you could increase their sales by ‘x’ if they partnered with you?

So, that's the first suggestion today: partner with an excellent content provider and agree on a revenue split, facilitate the product creation and uploading onto Free IQ, make them more money by increasing their exposure, and make a nice cut yourself.

The second reminder, which people often overlook, is that you can create sites to display Free IQ content. Practically, this means that you can publish information so your site gets credit for being the knowledge center on a given topic even though you may know nothing about it! And the content providers, the experts, won't mind because you are promoting them and their expertise.

Shawn actually talks about this in one of his Free IQ training sessions, Making Money With JV’s, Blogs, Minisites and More.

The final suggestion today challenges you to use video in ways you may not have considered before. The idea is that if you are doing any sort of product launch, or announcement of any kind, video needs to be a key component. It's proven that sales letters have a higher conversion rate when they contain video, and that video ads are more productive than static text and traditional banner ads. So, utilize the embed link within Free IQ and place your video wherever you are trying to convert a user to a customer, whether it be on your company site, email or a blog.

The marketing days without video are over.

Publish video wherever you are publishing marketing messages and watch your business grow.

A Summary of Free IQ Opportunities:

Create info products with known experts.

Refer experts with information products.

Display other people’s expert content on your site.

Include in Product launches, sales letters or any customer conversion attempt.

So, go start browsing for some content now.

What are you waiting for?

In this case, Ron Hutton effectively teaches how to edit a site by demonstrating a specific free software product called "Search and Replace 98."

During the nearly ten minute video, Ron shares his knowledge about replacing text, and shows that a search and replace for fifty web pages can be completed in just over 3 seconds, as opposed to the hours it may take to edit them by hand, simply by implementing a free software application. At the bottom of the page he also does a great job of:

providing you with a link to go get the download

inviting you to view more of his tutorials on his Free IQ author page

inviting you to submit comments and suggestions on his personal site

Check out the actual Free IQ product page to see how all of the information is layed out.

And remember, if Ron was also offering a paid product he could have the 'sales letter' text lead to the "add to cart" button utilizing the Free IQ full service e-commerce platform.

Is there something that you have recently explained to a friend that could be made into a similar tutorial? Do you have a trick you could teach someone or a product you can sell that would benefit somebody if you taught them how to use it and how it would make their life easier?

These are simple examples of how Free IQ can get your point across - remember, everyone has something of value to teach someone else. Let us help connect your expertise to those in need, and you to the infromation you need.

A quick update from the development team to let you know specifically about two new additions to the site.

First, with so much content being added to the site the time has come to implement pagination. You'll notice the search results display ten per page (and can be changed for your personal preference). The additional pages are available at the bottom of each page, in typical fashion.

The other improvement to the search results involves summary counts.

A typical note at the top of the page will read like this:
"Results for ecommerce (Found 115, Displaying 52 results from unique authors)"

What exactly does that mean?

The first number is simple. It's just the total count for all content found that matches the search term(s). So, in this example there are 115 pieces of content available for the term 'e-commerce.'

But what does "52 results from unique authors" mean?

Well, to help present a concentrated search result we're displaying only the first two content pieces from any given author and then providing a link to access any additional content, if more than two. The reason for this is that in some cases an author will have eight or ten or more pieces of content that are part of a series, and displaying all of them gets to be cumbersome on an initial search result page.

We think this will help users get to helpful content related to their search much more quickly.

These site enhancements are two examples of priorities that were identified by users. So, thanks a bunch for helping us with continuous feedback about the site and please keep the comments and suggestions coming!

Send your ideas through our Feedback page.

One fascinating aspect about this stage of our beta growth is watching as the variety of content expands. Maybe you're interested in learning how to hit a baseball, make a bunny out of a towel, or arc weld. In the past few days videos for each of these topics has been added to the site.

The arc welding video is very interesting because it's posted by a video production company that is highlighting the dvd they produced for the arc welder. And the dvd is being sold through Free IQ. So, the video company is marketing their services as much as they are marketing the product that is for sale on behalf of their client. That's a pretty slick opportunity.

Check out the teaser video. It's really well done. You get a very good sense for what you'll be purchasing. And the product page has a lot of detailed information about the dvd as well as the production company.

So, as we think about the long tail of content topics, the possibilities are infinite. If more than a couple of people are interested, there is a market. The industries or professions that can benefit from video marketing are limitless. Who would have expected to see an arc welding demonstration? But it works, doesn't it?

Marketing Sherpa recently published a story detailing how a Canadian grocer implemented User-Generated Content (UGC) to increase online activity and offline sales.

It got us thinking about the various ways video from Free IQ could be utilized in a retail store or business lobby environment, in addition to the traditional email and web posting applications.

Loblaws, Inc, the grocer, was looking for an innovative way to express that they valued what their customers were saying, specifically regarding their President's Choice private-label product lines. The solution was a program that would leverage customer reviews by deploying the user content in stores and creating a unique branding experience around the products.

By joining a membership, club customers would have the authority to submit ratings and reviews online. Positive reviews were then posted in-store when highly rated products were scheduled to go on sale. The signage was dubbed "shelf talk." Remember, they took plain text from the web site and associated it with a point of purchase sales opportunity.

What they found was that sales for products receiving "shelf talk" increased. As the program continued to grow, the stores flourished and the website usage increased as well.

You can get more details about the case study on the the Marketing Sherpa site.

On one hand, this seems pretty fundamental. On the other hand, imagine if these ideas were converted to video. What kind of an impact would that have on a consumer? Wouldn't the Free IQ system easily enable a store owner or business person to present testimonials to already engaged consumers?

Consider these fundamental thoughts for a moment:

All it would take is a laptop, or a computer and a monitor or TV to make a great impression

Production value isn't the key, it's the trustworthy consumer delivering a product-specific testimonial that matters

Free IQ is a no-cost solution (except for a little time to put it together)

Imagine these scenerios:

A dentist has a video with testimonials about a new whitening procedure and plays it in the waiting room

A local nursery plays a testimonial about a unique lawn seed that was introduced last year and was a huge hit

A retail tire store video explains safety enhancements about a specific tire they recommend - that's on sale

So you may be thinking "I don't have a retail store, what's this got to do with me"?

Here's what: If retail stores, with terrific face to face customer relations, are using UGC to help close the deal, and you are in a business that doesn't have a face to face relationship with your customers, you're crazy to not be using it.

Retail stores have so many advantages. They can influence the consumer with the smell of fresh flowers, or soothing music spilling down over the shopping environment, or a friendly, smiling store representative to engage in enjoyable conversation. To them, UGC, and video in particular, is an accessory. To you, it's a necessity.

The key is that there is already an engaged consumer. The question is how do you most effectively get your message across. For your website and email customer relationships, UGC (and video in particular) is imperitive. It is your face to face. And Free IQ can help provide a no-cost, easy to implement solution - It is a powerful message delivery system.

And the content can be re-purposed. The beauty of the system is that you can take that same video player you use in a point of purchase sales arena, and include it in an email to your customer list, and include it on your company web site or blog.... and why not include a coupon or other incentive? And don't forget to run some PPC back to your content for active online users looking to become engaged consumers!

See how many options there are if you just take a step back from all of the tradition marketing avenues you've probably fallen into a rut utilizing?

And isn't this really an extension of something we already know?

Video included within sales letters increases sales - we know that.

How else may video be implemented in the future to increase business?

This is getting fun - glad you're on board!

Challenge yourself this weekend as you enjoy the holiday with some down time.... imagine how you might implement content and testimonials by utilizing the functionality offered within Free IQ. And consider how your business can go to another level if you just step outside of your marketing comfort zone and look for new opportunities to distribute your message.

We've been collecting various articles and blog posts that you have been using to help spread the word about Free IQ, and we thank you! You'll notice a list of them on this blog, in fact.

It's also been interesting to see the comfort level grow as the talk about Free IQ has grown from a simple "oh my goodness, look what I discovered!... to affiliate sign-up pages... to now, actual product promotion.

Here is a great example from Literary Compass. They include the references to the Free IQ content within the page, and it's a totally natural fit. There isn't any hype or pitch about Free IQ, just a marketing opportunity using Free IQ as a tool. Here is the exact reference:

The audiobook of ROMAN Reading is available at no charge from FreeIQ. You can download it as an mp3 file, or you can embed it in your blog as streaming audio.

Check out the actual page on their site.

As you load content to your account, think about how you will be sending people to it. How will you be introducing users to it? The description on the product page needs to be descriptive enough to meet expectations after a user clicks through from your invitation. And the corollary is true also: your invitation to click needs to be descriptive enough to be helpful.

All in all, this Literary Compass example is just one that points out how natural the Free IQ integration can be. Are you taking enough advantage of it yet?
